This page has been due for some time now. As I can not (yet) boast with my own music here let's discuss those bands and individuals having the greatest influence on my music taste.
Sotimes in the 80's I finally convinced my old man to buy some kind of a stereo system, it was one of those compact el'cheapo systems with 2 c-cassette drives, receiver and a turntable all packed neatly into this one black box. The speakers were a bit small to my liking at that time. Nowdays it's not the size but the awfully low quality that makes me puke. All respects to that box, it is still running after 20 years of abuse and I spend many a great moment with that modest equipment and hissing c-cassettes borrowed from friends...
Now at that time people I knew either listened to godawful cheesy pop or heavy metal. I chose the latter, no real MAN could enjoy that stupid lousy pop. So Motorhead it was, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister etc. you got the picture?
It took a while to find something completely different, you know there was music made before and made with better attitude. Or at least with better drugs...first time I saw Jimi Hendrix video featuring such classic psychedelic pieces as "The Voodoo Chile" with really psychotic use of image filters I was sold. The guitar screamed in agony, lights flashed and image was distorted to LSD effect. This was the stuff I always wanted to listen to, just had not realized there was such music available.
Jimi, dead for since my birth became my tutor in music styles. His style was extraordinary, drawing from blues, rock, psychedelia, jazz, just about anything ever played. Still it was HIS sound, playing homage to masters gone before in HIS own electrified sounds. He is in the center, he is the culmination of 20th century sound. I just hope he would still be around, playing jazzy fuzzy electrified guitar screaming from the rings of Saturn.
I find myself always back on Jimi's music. I have listened to his records more than anything else and still they sound fresh. There must be more of his jamming session recordings somewhere, rotting magnetic tape lying around in basements...I hope they are saved before it is too late.
For the time being here is a listing what you should definitely check out
